ACULTURAL ATTRACTIONS

Osa is characterized by being a multicultural territory. The archaeological heritage and the wide repertoire of cultural practices and material remnants that can be seen today in the area are the result of a pre-Columbian past and a series of historical events, subsequent to the time of contact with the Spaniards, who shaped the development of the society "Oseña".

THE OSA BANANA LANDSCAPE

The beginning of economic activity and banana production, in the 30s of the twentieth century, in the canton of Osa, was a new social and cultural universe that broke with the existing schemes. Forest and natural landscapes were modified, which were covered by a thick layer of forest and vegetation and were sparsely populated due to the dynamics established during the conquest of the Spanish.

Forests gave way to large plantations and urban planning, which was adapted to the demands of the environment and to the productive requirements of banana monoculture. In this way, administrative centers, towns and villages were built. A new architectural and constructive system emerged with a clear Victorian influence.
